[MG100] week 20.24 (deep breath)
I don't know about you but I am having the seemingly contradictory feelings of being exhausted and ready for the long haul. I am shifting into high gear (the one that uses less gas) expecting a pandemic situation to last more than a year and a fight towards the end of racism to last longer. I am optimistic that we will end them both and realistic enough to know that between here and there will be highs and lows. We will be best served by moderating how we feel about them both. Marshall led a beautiful Core Call Monday in which he describes how with each breath we create a new self, about how we should thank our past selves and do things that will allow our future selves to thank us. It's a beautiful perspective you can find here. (deep breath)
And if you are looking to learn about our amazing new members, to learn from our world-class experts about how to be more resilient or lead with gratitude, well, you're lucky because you've come to the right place. So check out what we are offering this week, and join us to re-charge, re-new or just to take a deep breath.

Wed June 17th: Member Speaker Wednesday: Dr. Taryn Stejskal (pronounced Stay – Skull) Former head of Executive Leadership at Nike, Resilience Expert
Resilience Leadership (RL) is about supporting people in recognizing their worth and value, believing in themselves, appreciating their inherent strengths, recognizing their skills and talents, and being more resilient in order to reach their full potential. When we are operating from a place of full potential, we have the greatest capacity to positively impact our world. People often think that you need to be “born resilient”, when in fact, people are MADE resilient. This means you are not defined by your past circumstances AND that you were made for even more! “I’ve always been fascinated by people - in particular, what allows people to be at their very best. In this quest to understand our potential, I found the power of resilience.”
Thu June 18th Member Book of the Week: Leading with Gratitude: 8 Leadership Practices for Extraordinary Results Chester Elton and Adrian Gostick
The influential New York Times bestselling authors Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton have surveyed more than 1 million working adults to understand how to bolster employee morale, efficiency, and productivity. For leaders wanting to retain great talent and better engage their people, the solution might be right under their noses. In this invaluable guide, they identify the widespread and pernicious myths about managing others that cause leaders to withhold thanks. The authors introduce eight simple ways managers can show employees they are valued. Leading with gratitude isn’t just about being nice, it’s about being smart—really smart—and it’s a skill that everyone can easily learn. Fri June 19th: Medicine and Wellness with Dr. Julie Rosenberg and guests
Big Moves: David Petersen
I announced last week that I will be leaving Google to focus on new adventures.
Three things happened in the past year that led to this moment. First, after almost 10 wonderful, exciting years at Google, I have been thinking deeply about my future and the right time to disrupt myself. Second, last fall a small team of us started revising and reinventing our coaching strategy and process for the future needs of Google and its leaders, which we are now implementing. Third, my small startup, 7 Paths Forward, dedicated to accelerating the growth and development of executive coaches, has been taking off. And I’ve been getting more and more requests to coach leaders outside of Google, to speak at conferences, and to consult to organizations on their own coaching programs. So the timing, especially with all the disruption happening around us right now, seems ideal. Leaving a company like Google, and my many friends here, is hard. And I’m a little apprehensive, to be sure, but super-excited about my new adventures.
And, as always, thank you, Marshall, for making all of this possible
With love and gratitude
Scott
