[MG100] week 20.27 I'm Feeling Inspired
If you have been missing Marshall's Monday calls as he works out his new book, well, you have been missing out! His new framework of parent self, present self, and child self is liberating, empowering, and motivating (add you own -ing)... I would add inspiring!

Speaking of inspiration, I would like to recommend Jad Abumrad's TED talk. Jad is host of "Radiolab" and tells true stories that help people find beauty in a chaotic world. Here he presents a way forward from conflict called A Third. “And coming back from that trip on the mountain, a friend of mine gave me a book that gave this whole idea a name. In psychotherapy, there's this idea called the third, which essentially goes like this. Typically, we think of ourselves as these autonomous units. I do something to you, you do something to me. But according to this theory, when two people come together and really commit to seeing each other, in that mutual act of recognition, they actually make something new. A new entity that is their relationship.” Jad Abumrad

And I also want to recommend a dose of hope to help wash down all that inspiration. Check out DESIGN MATTERS with Debbie Millman the episode in which Michael Porter and Katherine Gehl discuss what is broken within our political system—and how we can redesign a new future. What if, instead of seeing this as a political problem, we looked at it as a design problem? What if we took a step back and asked: How can our elections work better? And how can we make laws that actually solve our problem? These are the questions that Katherine Gehl and Michael Porter tried to answer in their book The Politics Industry: How Political Innovation Can Break Partisan Gridlock and Save Our Democracy. Seriously, it's possible!

Dr. David S Cohen, Ed. D.
David has a vision: organizations that thrive by living their values in good times and especially VUCA times. David's first career was in elementary and high school education, where he built a reputation for building school communities based on purpose and social responsibility. Thirty-three years ago, David transitioned to corporate consulting. As a consultant, David earned a reputation as a contrarian consultant because he does not always follow what is popular in his chosen field. David works with leaders helping them understand what is and what is not necessary to build an active and positive organization. He helps leaders' step into life's challenges, inspiring them to create a sustained approach through a values-based focus, resulting in better business results.
