[MG100] week 20.31 Summer Ours
What does summer on ZOOM even look like? Can we take long breaks, keep moving or at least get outside? Have we learned how to create balance in our lives with social distancing? How do we adapt to the current abnormal even while we prepare for the new normal? Make no mistake about it, after the pandemic is tamed (which it will) the world will be a different place. This week, I leave you with two thoughts: now is the time to start thinking about post-pandemic opportunity and it is also time to take advantage of the extended time we have with our "pod" - formerly known as our family and our closest friends. Don't just take summer hours, make this summer ours.
McKinsey: ‘And now win the peace’: Ten lessons from history for the next normal
Imagination, leadership, and a dash of inspiration will be required to figure out the right policies for the 21st century. During the COVID-19 crisis, there have been many examples from the public, private, and social sectors to prove that these qualities are alive and well. What is needed now is the commitment to make the changes and investments that will create a future of broad prosperity. https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/leadership/and-now-win-the-peace-ten-lessons-from-history-for-the-next-normal?cid=other-eml-alt-mip-mck&hlkid=b8b237a1109f498baee26aa0395e95f1&hctky=1991373&hdpid=f4cffc5b-7f4f-4f08-85ef-a2a484070521#
Sally Helgesen: Understanding how female leaders have developed over time can help us embrace the potential for their future advancement.
In the wake of the protests, companies are taking a long, hard look at their diversity and inclusion initiatives, and many are having difficult but critical dialogues with employees about the personal impact of prejudice and bias. As current trends coalesce, and as companies engage with governments and civil society in rethinking the rules that determine opportunity and success, the notions of who and what makes a leader must continue to expand. And with that expansion of influence and power, we can expect — and should demand — the next turning point in our story to have a broader reach. https://www.strategy-business.com/article/The-evolution-of-womens-leadership?gko=35543
If you are not doing the Daily Questions, perhaps this is a good time to start?
Write the questions that you should ask yourself every day. Even the process of writing questions will help you better understand your own values and how you live or don’t live them on a daily basis. If you really have courage, have someone listen to your answers every day. You might be as amazed at the results as I have been! https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/6-daily-questions-marshall-goldsmith/?trackingId=jiab%2BJfRij%2FVMHVdN%2Bk2vQ%3D%3D
And, as always, thank you, Marshall, for making all of this possible
With love and gratitude
