MG100 Week 20.45 Seeing Yourself Life-Size

It’s hard to know what to say after having the privilege of hearing the advice that a genius gave a legend, and yet it is advice that we can all put into practice. Balancing our relative feeling of making a difference and feeling relatively helpless, here comes a quote that puts it in perspective. This thought reminds me of Sanyin Siang’s great thought that we very often don’t recognize our own superpowers because they come too easily to us and are therefore seemingly less valuable. She, like Oshoke Abalu and Ayse Birsel, would advise us to recognize and embrace our superpowers and, see ourselves as big as we really are.
This was an easy week to see how big people really are as the voters mobilized and got out the vote in truly record numbers. Poll workers who put themselves at risk to make sure everyone had the right to vote and their votes were counted were life-sized. The people who got out the vote were life-sized. And the people who felt the commitment to democracy and voted were life-sized.
Regardless of your politics, we can all agree that civic engagement is what makes a democracy great. Civic engagement requires leadership at all levels. 100 Coaches is about leadership and advancing the best practices of leaders. We are facing many obstacles, which need to be addressed by leaders who bring out the best in the followers and find ways to allow everyone to see themselves as life-sized.
