The Flourishing of Becoming Coachable
Writing, producing, and launching Becoming Coachable with my coauthors Marshall Goldsmith and Jacquelyn Lane has been a long and rewarding journey. Our days were filled with collaboration and synchronicity, often beginning in the early hours of the morning and ending well after midnight.
Not only have we unearthed new discoveries about our own work during this revelatory process, but we also got the chance to share them with you in the pages of the book. After a collective century of experience in the field of executive coaching, launching a book like this feels like a major milestone in our continued exploration of what it takes to be stellar leaders, collaborators, and humans. We are so grateful to have given back to the leadership community at large—a community that feels like home.
In this last installment of the Becoming Coachable Miniseries, I’d like to share an incredible experience Jacquelyn and I had that encapsulates why we wrote this book, and the legacy we hope to leave behind with each person it touches.
This past weekend, we attended a service at a local synagogue. We entered and took our seats, and soon after the service began, we were floored when the rabbi began talking about a new book he was reading. It was one that had changed his perspective on his leadership of the congregation. It was one that encouraged him to recognize his flaws and take accountability for them. It was one that inspired him to ask for—and honor—feedback received from others.
It was our book, Becoming Coachable, that sparked his new way of thinking and leading. To say this was a humbling, awe-inspiring moment is an understatement.
To every person who has had an experience like this one in some way, shape, or form as a result of reading this book:
Thank you.
We feel so deeply, that the circle of strong coaches and leaders is becoming even stronger. We see the very real potential the openness framework has to change lives, and we are so grateful you’ve come along with us on this journey.
And it’s a journey that doesn’t end here. We look forward to hearing all of your perspectives on how Becoming Coachable continues to impact you—please reach out to us. We can’t wait to continue the conversation.
With love, gratitude, and wonder,
Scott
