I am very intrigued by stories about renewed interest in local politics. The current trend in US politics is getting involved in local elections, what might have formerly been seen as uninteresting jobs. Somewhat different from years past when these roles in government were seen as a form of civic engagement, today they are seen as having a significant impact. One example is local school boards. Not very prestigious, and probably not a stepping stone to higher office or even present spotlight. On the other hand, these officials will majorly impact schools and what gets taught. This kind of local activism is getting the attention of both parties, and we can expect to see more people who would never have thought of getting involved in politics starting to be engaged.
